Silky Beats
Ohhh-wee! Silky Johnson’s got them beats!
Just the other day Silk dropped this instrumental beat tape entitled “Hater of the Year”(Silky shares the same name as a Chappelle’s Show character from the Playa Haters Ball -*see him on the bottom of the cover next to Bin Laden*).
This was my first introduction to the beatsmith and I definitely enjoy his work. Some of these tracks have a lot of musicality to them and are actually pretty moving (not just that head nod ish). He’s got those hard knocking beats and lo-fi, sample-infused style, with a lil extra somethin’ somethin’, sort of in the same vein as Clams Casino (less spacey though) SAMIYAM, Comma, C Powers, and even Madlib.
