When we crawled out, eyes blinded by the morning.
Fierce acoustic chops and a deep soulful rhythm will blow you out of the water on Matt Cranstoun’s latest release, The Last Drop of Color.
The album opener “5th Street Lights” has a new anthemic feel that effortlessly builds and builds, perfectly setting the tone. “Tattoo” is what I’d like to call a slow-burner, something that creeps slowly into your eardrums and makes itself right at home. Cranstoun’s like a folkier David Gray who croons with intensity that makes you believe his sound isn’t just appealing, it’s massively appealing. Plus, he frequently enlists a gospel choir for backing help which is pretty damn amazing.
If you’re in New York City tonight then get down to the Mercury Lounge where Matt’s holding his album release show and playing alongside others such as Chris Cubeta & The Liars Club and Brian Bonz. Having seen the real thing live at CMJ (shout out to Feeling Anxious PR) Daryl and I can truly attest this man has got incredible stage presence and will throw on one hell of a set.
Lastly, grab the first single off The Last Drop for free below and check out the promo vid for his album. For more listening, make sure to stream its entirety over at AOL Music, you can grab the album on iTunes or at Amazon if you’d like as well.
