While I despise making year-end lists (for many reasons), I don’t mind commenting on some of my favorites of the year.
Beach Fossilscreate lo-fi guitar-line focused music. The lighter surfy riffs sometimes disguise the heavier content matter, but sometimes I like that. What makes their sound different and stand out is the rooted 80′s pop elements they have managed to blend.
Below is the music video they teamed up with Urban Outfitters to produce for their song, “Adversity.” I really like the shots in the forest and how they play with exposure and shadows with darkness and light. It feels like a collection of fleeting memories..
Alex Winston‘s well-knit pop tunes can’t get remixed enough in my opinion. The latest rework of Velvet Elvis by Crystal Fightersis pretty rad addition to the already existing library of renditions, which include artists like King Charles and RAC. All we need now is a Starslingerversion, his Sister Wife remix is damn pretty smooth.
Meet Alex Winston, the cute little thing who pulls you in with her infectious hooks and sweet voice with rough-around-the-edge lyrics. I’ve made the comparison before to Jenny Lewis, but she’s not so much folky-twang.
I just like the fact that she does whatever the fuck she wants especially in her music videos (see “Velvet Elvis” below), my kind of girl. This is why I’m featuring her under our “weekend moods” segment, she creates music that I want and normally do sing at the top of my lungs all of which my roommate really appreciates.
“Velvet Elvis” is off her upcoming EP which is set to drop September 19th. Of course I’m going to be all over the RAC remix, the other songs are off previous works. Swoon-pop to the fullest.
