[Music Video] The Eponym – Chill Bump

I honestly don’t think I could keep up with this French duo even if I tried. Chill Bump has been working persistently on dropping fresh tracks on the regular. They’re massively appealing, super approachable, and genuinely talented fellows.

It only seems up from here. Ready your ears for EP #4, The Loop, due out December 3rd and keep yourself entertained with their latest video, “The Eponym,” below which features Bankal and Miscellaneous in playful classroom scenes. Their sound keeps tightening and tightening, I love it.

Live Art: Charlotte Gainsbourg

Charlotte Gainsbourg has made a definitive name for herself in the art and entertainment world, besides being the daughter of notable European parents. With a famous actress as a mother and a French singer for a father, it’s no wonder Gainsbourg had seamlessly entered the industry when she was merely 15 years old.

Fast forward some years into adulthood and Gainsbourg still has not let up. With multiple film parts and releasing a fourth album last winter (among other amazing collaborations), she appears to still be making her way all over the world performing for the masses. Diane Roka was there earlier this year when the singer/songwriter performed at TLA here in Philadelphia. Grab a handful of music below and check out the rest of Diane’s sketches below.

Songs For Your Weekend Moods: Chill Bump edition.

“We know things are bad..worse than bad.”

Chill Bump may be one of the hardest working camps coming out of France. With the short and sweet EP releases they keep pumping out, my inbox doesn’t even get a chance to breath.

In their newest drop, Hidden Strings, Miscellaneous lays down his distinct maddening flow (in English no less) over impressive and glitchy hip-hop beats. Each track is heavy and the structure and production is absolutely solid. This could be my favorite release of theirs, especially with the Intermission track and the insanely creative beats Bankal keeps hitting our ears with.

And all fantastic things come at name your price. Grab your copy below.

Meet: Yelle

Julie Budet (aka the front-woman of Yelle) is a French electro-pop artist that does more than demand your ear’s attention. Joined by producers GrandMarnier (Jean-Francois Perrier) and Tepr (Tanguy Destable), the group create effortless dance music that will get you moving in no time.

It may be the simple fact that Budet does not utter one word of English, or maybe it’s the infectious hooks, whatever it is I’ve been sold a long time ago and now it’s your turn. With no intentions of slowing down, Yelle has just released their latest album Safari Disco Club which is 13-tracks of pure motion.

Check out some of my favorite songs below and be sure to watch their newest music video for track, “Comme Un Enfant.”

Comme Un Enfant (The 14th Minute Remix) – Yelle

S’eteint Le Soleil (Mistereric Remix) – Yelle

Que Veux Tu (Madeon Remix) – Yelle

BONUS:  I have to give credit to Vlad for hooking me up with this track. Xaphoon Jones of Chiddy Bang does an absolutely fantastic job with this remix. Extra bonus? He hails from Philly.

Oui Got It Wrong (Xaphoon Jones Bootleg) – Yelle

Right-click and enjoy.

Quit acting psycho, this ain’t a Hitchcock movie.

Alone In The Storm EP – Kelly Pavan

Sparse folktronica was waiting for me once I got back to Philadelphia, and I just couldn’t resist sharing it with you all.

There’ Bon Iver-esque reverb on the hymnal vocals and sparkling effects that make their way in between the thick layering of synths. It’s a gorgeous blend of minimal sounds that come together, something French producer, Kelly Pavan, is no stranger to. Alone In The Storm EP, will be the debut release from the brand new European record label, dhARMA, that specializes in beautiful and eclectic electronica sounds.

Have a listen below, I’m sure there’s plenty more to come from dhARMA.

More freedom for us, more dismay for them.

I’m pretty sure you all know by now how I feel about the French and their hip-hop. I fucking love it, so of course I was extremely hype on being tipped off on Chill Bump.

Straight out of Tours, France – this rap/hip-hop duo consists of Bankal (Beatmaker) and Miscellaneous (MC) who both have been busy making names for themselves in their home country.  It’s nice to hear when two furious forces join together and create something so absolutely smooth that it’s hard not to listen.

Check out their latest EP entitled Back To The Grain which shows off their crate-digging and beat dropping skills all while simultaneously throwing that middle finger up.

And their latest vid for track, “Leakin,” below.

17 days.

This cat has funk in all of the right places.

Meet Breakbot, otherwise known as Thibaut Berland, a smooth French producer and DJ who’s doing his part to keep the disco/electro scene alive. I don’t know too much about him but one thing is clear, this man can enhance any track with his midas touch of a remix. Check out a dash of his work below, I think he’s going to throw on one massive dance party at Coachella this year.

Baby I’m Yours – Breakbot Feat. Irfane

I Think I Like U 2 (Breakbot Remix) – Jamaica

Fantasy (Viceroy Summer Mix) – Breakbot

Fantasy feat. Ruckazoid (Video Village remix) – Breakbot

Keep the grooving up with this video for his track, “Baby I’m Yours.”

Inhale nature.

It took me a long, long time to get into jazz. My dad used to play it throughout my house as a kid..and I just was not feeling it. It took me ’til about college when I finally started enjoying it, mostly through the push from my music appreciation classes. But if I had some Jazz Liberatorz back then in my life, then maybe I would have warmed up to it a bit sooner.

After spending a significant amount of time in Maryland for the Holidays, I’ve had a very slow transition back to normal life here in Philadelphia. Catching up in emails earlier, “Cool Down” crept up on my playlist, perfectly timed, prompting me to want to immediately share. This French hip-hop group exposes the jazz genre in a different light with an easy hip-hop beat and relaxing sampling.

Dig deep into their discography, these guys are still active, doing what they love and do best.
