Revisits.
Welcome to a new little thing I’m going to call Revisits. This is where I’m going to be posting a collection of songs that hit me hard on shuffle. Songs that may be years old, the bands may have broken up, who knows but we’ll take a trip back in time.
Blood Bank – Bon Iver It’s crazy how far this band has come right? This is Justin Vernon pre-autotune and it’s just lovely. I love the sorrowful, nostalgic lyrics. It’s beautiful the way he describes a first meeting, and links that event to somewhere far in the present in a close, personal moment. He uses the events to allude to the relationship between himself and the woman, it’s kind of an incredible transition. The fade works really well in this track too.
Portland Is Leaving – Rocky Votolato This was one of the very first songs I heard from Votolato, that and “Suicide Medicine,” but I still always come back to this song even after all of the music he has done since. It’s got the party ambiance in the background, Rocky’s warm voice and a slow strum on an acoustic guitar. Sounds like a pretty obvious winner to me.
Is There a Ghost – Band of Horses All I’m going to say is that I would love to see these guys at a festival.
11th Dimension – Julian Casablancas I almost forgot about when Julian went solo from The Strokes until this song came on. This was the first single off album, Phrazes For The Young, I thought it was decent. It definitely is shinier then his Strokes sound. Also, back in July Stereogum released a tribute album titled Stroked which features artists such as Austra, Real Estate, Owen Pallett, Heems, and more. Grab your free download here.
