I’m just going to be honest – HypeM did well today

Not that HypeM isn’t a normal source of some quality finds for me — but their top 20 just had some extra special sauce to it. You had your mashups (which I still love but won’t often admit to those who actually appreciate music), Kanye hit a homerun, Cudi was up there, and call me a late bloomer — but it was my first listen to Belle & Sebastian’s new song.

We’re going to organize this in levels of excitement….

First off, a mashup — it’s catchy but it’s still a mashup. It’s nice for a tired friday morning, but it’s nothing I’ll remember in a couple weeks. Ok, honestly, this is just getting posted up for Drew.
Ghosts on a G6 Mashup

Ran across this little gem today as well, although I realize this has been around for a bit tell me this isn’t one of the catchiest little riffs — then the chorus is a straight up 60′s/80′s blend (that wasn’t a mistype)
Belle & Sebastian – I Want The World To Stop

Finally, Kanye hit it out of the park. Wow — back to his old rhyme scheme and a the sample to match. Kanye goes over La Roux’s “In for the kill”. This shit just bumps and Kanye (for the for the first time in a while) doesn’t disappoint. I only phrase it that way because of how high my expectations for the man are. This is the first time he’s hit them for me since “Power”.
La Roux (ft. Kanye) – In for the Kill Remix

Honorable mentions from HypeM’s top 40 today:
Wiz – Know your name It’s just catchy, but lyrics aren’t the most complex thing in the world. It’s Wiz, so that’s what you get.
Lupe Fiasco -We Beamin ft Asher, Charles H, Cool Kids, BoB, and others It’s solid but for that collab — I was expecting more than a 5.5/10 from the bunch. Lupe does kill it though, no denying that.

Leaked: Kanye – See Me Now

Kanye told us via twitter, and what the man speaks as gospel transpires to reality — the leak is out.

The mood of the song is a lot different than what we heard from Power, and there’s no frescoes (Michelangelo) influenced video that’ll come out o fit but it’s really not bad. It’s more upbeat, he’s got Beyonce on the hook, it’s really got the makings of something good. I’m hopeful for the final version, but this is nothing mind-blowing as it stands. I just have high expectations for this lyrical genius (I’m really not even being that sarcastic, I straight up love Kanye and everything he stands for)
