What’s left to say about this extremely talented Australian? With his ingenius use of ambient synths, pitch-correcting effects and minimalist lyrics that truly hit you, there’s not much else to do except listen.
“Help You Breath,” Tank’s most recent single, is what he describes as one of the best tracks he’s ever done. He lingers on a few lines that focus on his two loves, repetitively and convincingly. No dramatic and climactic endings here, this song simply settles deep inside you.

After reading bFunk’s post about Oliver Tank and how his music was “fucking beautiful,” I knew I had to sit down and dedicate time for some serious listening (hint: best of 2011 nod).
Those opening violins mixing with the ping-pong-esque beat may sound like a ridiculous pairing but with the slight auto-tune over Tank’s vocals it creates a truly sentimental, expressive and sobering track titled, “Last Night I Heard Everything in Slow Motion.” Of all the songs from his debut EP, Dreams, this one struck me in the gut. I just had to listen to it over and over..and over and over. And then put it in a new cool 120 so all of you could experience the same feelings I did. I have been completely floored by this EP. It’s fucking beautiful. I even cried a little (no lie).
This gem popped up in my inbox via Melbourne Australia’s Yes Please Records and I went on over and checked it out. As I said, I was floored. From start to finish, each song pulls you right in. Immediately I was engulfed by the the beautiful melodies and textures, the little nuances, the drum sounds, and vocal pans. At parts very minimal and stripped down, but so much attention to production detail. And the lyrics. Oh God. Stab me in the heart!!! Listening to this album is an extremely emotional and engrossing experience.
It’s nice in the headphones, not only because it sounds so beautiful but because listening to it as a whole feels extremely personal (and headphones are personal). Like you are alone, reading a letter that Oliver Tank wrote to you.
Give it a listen, and feel some feelings.
