I know you’re fighting your fight.

I enjoy when groups remind me of a lot of different bands yet…I just can’t put my finger on it. Hailing from Orlando, Florida, Great Receivers meld a lot of familiar sounds together. A little progressive rock here, some jazz elements there, and aching vocals for a smooth layer on top.

Great Deceivers have recently released their sophomore album, Seasons in Reverse, which keeps up with the laid-back rhythms and old-school jazz influence. It’s a perfect album to ease you into your afternoon. Certainly not harsh on the ears, I hear a little bit of Minus The Bear in the vocals which I really dig. Grab “Plea for Reprieve” then check out the rest of their 9-track album here.

Songs for your weekend moods: JSHIH edition.

So I finally did it.  I’ve succumbed to buying an audio interface.  Whatever, I’m mad excited.  I’ve been holding off on it for awhile, but fuck it.  Good story…I have an even better one though.

This morning I stumbled upon this guy, Jordan Shih also known as JSHIH, who seems like a modest-as-hell and crafty dude.  There’s not much out there about him besides he’s from Orlando and a great live show who’s all around (will sample and do vocals) and will even bring it down a notch with intimate guitar midi shows.

These past couple of months he’s been ceaselessly dropping trippy song after song, each track being vastly different yet all under his same strain of psychedelic-electronica.  The beginning of “unsung” sounds like a chillwave Crystal Castles.  ”Fire Candy” is a bit goofier (not in a bad way, you’ll see what I mean) and uptempo but has a nice old school beat, even throwing some vocals in.  And, I’m pretty much in love with the glitchiness of “ate bits.”

Five songs for your Friday.  Right-click and enjoy.

I’m A Pilot – Fanfarlo A classic English folk band. The slow claps and percussion are beautiful and power you forward along musical tracks at a steam-engine pace. Dig it.

Summer Is Coming – Matt Pond PA This guy always sing with pain and emotion in his voice, you can just feel it dripping off those lyrics, “This could be something.”  Check out his site, he’s got a new EP that’s sure to be solid.

Second Second – Levek Don’t let all the tropical and beach friendly sounds take over and conceal the depth of this song.  ”You never take a second look,” listen…

Get Better – Mates of State This husband/wife duo has always been part of a different generation of indie-pop in my book.  Back when Rilo Kiley was my jam and Tilly and the Wall were a staple.  I’m not sure where these two have been lately but when this song came on my iPod today I just about died.  I vow to do some research..

Five Years Coming – Cataldo “So fuck no I won’t resist.”  Sold.  Download this folky-singalong.
