With Sandy now in our recent past, the entire East Coast has been trying to pick up the pieces for days now. We here in Philadelphia escaped some of the worst damage, but some other major cities weren’t as lucky.
New York City is still suffering outages, insane traffic, and extremely high gasoline demands. One thing that some of the population thought they could still count on was this momentous running event. And then surprisingly, it was called off. To say it’s been an interesting week is an understatement.
With its pros and cons, marathons are still an immense physical feat. Propelling your body forward for over 20 miles gains respect in my book, no matter what your time is. For those who spent the past year training for an event that fell apart after a natural disaster, that hard work wasn’t wasted. And for those who hit the pavement locally, perhaps without a goal that large, that energy was never wasted either. It’s just what we do, we keep on moving.
Happy running.
