Tennis vs. Young The Giant

With all of the excitement going on in my life…more like me trying to move out of one apartment and into another (painting/touching up and all), I completely forgot about the fact that I’m heading out to Chicago at the beginning of August.

And then it was more like an “oh, shit” moment since I hadn’t purchased my plane tickets yet.

Once that minor detail was taken care of I headed over to the Lollapalooza site to refresh my memory on the lineup, which just like earlier this year, I’ll be feeding you all with songs of artists who will be gracing the stages at Grant Park. I don’t think anything could top my Coachella experience (it is rather blurry though..), but this time around I’ll be ready to make the most out of the festival. So, give me your tips on the city, I haven’t been since I was like 8.

Typical of most festivals, there are always set conflicts..some are hard to make a decision for while others you may be easily swayed.  On Friday, Tennis and Young The Giant will both be playing simultaneously. Tennis, a husband/wife duo, stirred up some hype with cute single, “Marathon,” but fell under the radar soon after. They have recently picked up attention again with a Brenda Lee cover displaying their sound best.  Young The Giant is an eclectic group of artists from many different backgrounds and yet create such a smooth, classic sound.  Vocalist, Sameer Gadhia, has a voice that’s soulful and energetic and one that instantly won me over.  Have a listen..who would you pick?

Is It True (Brenda Lee Cover) – Tennis

Marathon – Tennis

Strings – Young The Giant

Cough Syrup – Young The Giant

Yeah, I know who I’m seeing..right-click and enjoy.

Oh, it’s also the 20th anniversary of the festival and they’re leading up to it with video installments, check one of them out below.

Like always, yes always.

Just some songs I enjoyed cycling to today.

It Goes Down – Tape Deck Mountain This song came on during the end of my bike ride today..right in the middle of North Philadelphia.  Gritty and barren.  The wind made it a little bit colder where I almost wished I wore another layer.  This song came on at that moment.

Rano Pano – Mogwai Off their latest album, Hardcore Will Never Die, this psychedelic/fuzzy/rock-whatever instrumental outfit never disappoints me.  I definitely think they had some better songs but this is still a solid one.  I have to say, their new stuff is pretty damn good and fucking tight (next post…perhaps?).

I Got – Young The Giant Ahh been loving on this song for so long I’m not sure why I haven’t ever posted it.  Anyways, talented pop/rock band out of California with some tight guitars and vocals.  I love their style, bet these guys would be good live.

Generator ^ Second Floor – Freelance Whales Oldie but goody..these guys have been getting big- appearing in car commercials and all.  I recently blew the dust off Weathervanes the other day and this great, little song came on during my trek through the city.

Enjoy.
