Meet Joywave.
Joywave has been on and off my unconscious radar for months now.
I’ve been downloading tracks the music blogosphere has been throwing out every now and then, leaving them on my iPod and random mix CD’s. And still..no post dedicated solely to this up and coming indie-pop group.
Meet Joywave, coming at you straight from Rochester, NY. I’m not sure how they created such smooth, warm music from such a frigid area of the country. They’re genre-defying..maybe indie, maybe pop, string it together with some soulful beats and you’ve got yourself Joywave. Each song I’ve encountered I have loved for different reasons. “Golden State” was the very first I heard which has this heavy indie-rock feel to it, but has such a nice light chorus. Then I went on to listen to, “Traveling at the Speed of Light” which completely slows their sound down, a lot more production going on in this one. And then there’s my most recent obsession, “Betelgeuse” (which apparently is the 8th brightest star – thanks wiki) which has got some incredible lyrics with a great keyboard beat that starts the entire song off.
Joywave is all over the spectrum. They’re not for everyone’s ears. You’ve got to be patient with this band, but they will blow you away. Back in March they released an 11 song mixtape which features many samples from all over the place like from The Pet Shop Boys and The Flaming Lips…all for FREE right here.
Traveling At The Speed Of Light
BONUS: They also cover Robyn…how could I not post this…
I also request from this band that they leave their state of NY and venture down to some East Coast cities so I can see this solid music live. No all-ages shows either, I wanna drink..thanks.
Right-click and download, enjoy.
