Too much at stake in this social affair.
I think indie-rock is on its way back. Being a music aggregating-machine, it’s easy for me to notice music trends especially within the blogging community. Not to say chillwave and electro-pop is on its way out, I’m just saying make some room in your music library for a heavier hitting sound now that the cool air is beginning to become a staple in our everyday lives.
The Chairman Dances came to me via email and were certainly a pleasant surprise. Besides having their recently released album, A History Of Iniquity, supported in part by the University of Pennsylvania Libraries but they also produce some fundamentally-sound indie rock. I had to know more about UPenn’s involvement which Eric was happy to explain:

“Penn has been trying to support Philly artists through a variety of means: the publication of local authors’ books and essays, the hosting of Ars Nova events and other cultural happenings at the Rotunda and elsewhere; in our case, a library administrator heard our finished but unmixed album, and, intrigued by the idea of a musicologist and a bunch of grad students making an indie rock album, offered his help with the project.”
That’s pretty damn interesting, way to go UPenn…although I’m an Owl through and through.
If you’re in the Philadelphia area these guys will be playing at The Station in the south section of town on November 4th. Don’t worry though, we’ll remind you when the date gets closer. Now have a listen to their Weakerthans-esque track below, it’s good.
