They Didn’t Mean To Make Me, But I Got Made Anyway.

Hey no shit, these guys are from New Jersey! (ha!) Sorry Jerz.

I came across Brick + Mortar the other day and was first introduced to their sound through their newest single Heatstroke.” I was immediately engrossed by this track upon my very first listen. Normally it’s the music that hits me first, but for this one it was really about the lyrics and the sound of singer Brandon Asraf’s voice. Just has a very raw and honest sound to it, lyrics included. Kind of reminds me of Isaac Brock from Modest Mouse (a little less whiny though).

After hearing “Heatstroke” I checked into the band’s back catalogue and found their only other release, last year’s EP “7 Years in the Mystic Room.” This is also really good and has some, what I guess you would call “indie pop sensibilities” with some reggae type grooves and various electronics to fill out the overall sound.

I’m very glad I came across these guys and thrilled that they are based just next door in Jersey. I’d love to check them out some time.

Give the little number I’m raving about a listen below and below (x2) is the 7 Years EP.
