Record Label Spotlight: Keep It Yours Records

Trust me, I love the local-Philadelphia music scene. I really, really do. Knowing this city like the back of my hand, it’s comforting. But, there’s an entire world outside of the 215 and that’s why I don’t call What’s Protocol? a “Philadelphia-music blog.” I incorporate what I’m listening to at the moment and chances are, it’s from somewhere else.

I wanted to mix things up in my posting and now, every so often, I’m going to spotlight a specific country for the day, providing plenty of music you can take away. I wanted to challenge myself, but also create some different content. My first stop is Italy, which is fitting since I’m headed out there this fall for an extended trip.

Keep It Yours Records is an independent label based out of Rome, going strong since 2010. With their eclectic roster, it truly cements that fact that indie labels can survive internationally, especially when they drop compilations such as this.

My favorite of the lot may be the group, Holidays, who create sweeping, surfy, lo-fi that just stops me in my tracks. Their newest release, Young Love, is specifically reminiscent of just that. It’s a mixture of dream pop, enough reverb, and shoegazey-vocals that instantly make me think of over-exposure, sun-washed jeans, and sandy dunes.

Also be sure to watch the music video for Casa del Mirto’s remix of “Sleepless,” which features shots from the fucked up film, Kids.

Ugh, and don’t forget Teen Daze’s remix of “Sands of Galaxies.”

Enjoy, more Italian artists coming your way all throughout the day.
