Through the forest.

So last night while scrolling through the Netflix catalogue I came across this 1980′s gem of a movie, 9-5, which I then proceeded to stay up too late watching. Then I pushed the idea of making a treasury on Chelsea and here we are today.

Meet: Neiliyo

Neiliyo is a producer/performer from Austin, Texas who makes funky-ass songs. His beats contain elements that remind me of Prince, Parliament Funkadelic, and Rick James, while his vocal delivery has more punk elements.

Yesterday he released a song he wrote about a hot day he spent in New York titled “NYC Summertime” which will be on an upcoming 4 song EP named Aquinnah. I loved it immediately. It has a funky synth bassline and some simple yet effective guitar riffs during the hook. I also particularly dug the solos that came in right after. The song is perfect for partying or awesome 80′s video montages. So while listening, either party or design an 80′s movie montage.

We’ll post the video if you make one.

Enjoy!

BONUS: Here’s a remix Neiliyo did of Das Racist’s “Hahahaha JK” about a year ago.

Muted Winter.

Chelsea and I used to joke about how this bitter cold weather makes you literally want to scream into the wind any moment you find yourself outside.

I may have done that a handful of times already today but, if you’re fortunate enough to be spending the majority of your time inside then check out Chelsea’s latest Etsy curation. The mix of brown and black tones blend amazingly. Make sure to click on each individual picture to be taken to the artist/seller’s site for direct purchasing.

Sage therapy.

When I said free beer, I truly meant free beer people. Hence why today’s been an ultimately dragging one without the help of this gloomy rain.

Another thanks goes out to all of those in attendance for the blog’s first go at our new living room show series, Bay Window Sessions. We had a fantastic time with Dominic (DRGN King) and Emperor X with a fabulously mixed crowd and lots and lots of Tecate.

But now I need a chill night and this Etsy treasury Chelsea curated today brings to mind all things calm and soothing. I want to wrap myself up in that blanket.

Walsh – “Girlfriend”

I’m currently on the road with Laser Sex and have a bit of downtime before the boys go on tonight at the Stone Church in Newmarket, New Hampshire.

That being said, It’s really loud in here and I can’t actually hear anything BUT I’m already a huge Walsh fan and after cruising the inter-web a bit I found out he just dropped this new track Girlfriend” the other day.

I’m going to just take a chance and say it’s good. Hopefully I’m right.

That warm and fuzzy feeling.

Movember: Magnum P.I. Status

I call this version of my moustache the "Magnum P.I.". Shoutout to Tom Selleck

Lindsey alerted me of the existence of something called “Movember” about a month or so ago. I read up on it and it sounds awesome. If you can grow a moustache, you grow one, and people sponsor the ‘stache with proceeds going to prostate cancer research.

I decided that I should participate and incorporate What’s Protocol? into the whole thing. Every week I will be giving a “State of the ‘Stache” Address, either by a photo or even a possible Vlog post.

I’m not completely following the rules of the contest as I was supposed to start off clean shaven. I like to be creative however, so I don’t think anyone benefitting from this will complain. I’ve decided that I will slightly alter the style of the ‘stache week by week, thus constituting the “State of the ‘Stache” Address.

I’ve also decided that each progression of the moustache deserves it’s own theme song. In it’s current state I would say my moustache is at Magnum P.I. length so the original theme song I composed this week has a 1980′s feel to it. I could definitely be on a cop show in the 80′s with this look. Enjoy the theme song and donate to the cause here!

Making history.

Teeel’s haunting old-school synths paired with rad video from the movie Thrashin’… it’s kind of a nice way to start to your weary Monday morning don’t you think? He also just released a free album of songs he wrote in 2008 under the moniker, mimeo, which you can download here. Compare and contrast and listen to his growth, right-click and enjoy.

How do you Cure :papercutz?

The camera they used for this pic had to be crazy. It's got shadows inside of its flash!!!

That headline I just made is so dumb. I used the two names of the bands that I am writing about in this post and combined them in a play on words like I’m writing for some sort of newspaper or something.

It’s like a headline that would go on the frontpage/cover of a paper. It’s like I did my own interpretation of a newspaper headline. Like a cover song. Yeah, I covered the paper.

Speaking of paper and covers, :papercutz covered the song “Disintegration” by The Cure. I kinda love it. The timbres they chose to use were perfect, with certain ones reminding me of sounds that were used in the soundtrack of Labyrinth. So check out the original song and then compare it to the cover.
