Oh, it felt good to turn off the AC unit in my room this morning, for once, I was actually cold. And to step outside on a crispy, sunny morning to walk my dog? Instant smile on my face.
I came back inside craving a soundtrack for the day, digging through albums and coming up with Miniature Tigers‘ second full length Fortress, which was released summer of 2010. With all of the hype Alan Palomo and his band, Neon Indian are getting with their latest release I thought it was fitting to include, “Goldskull” which features that distinct synth-pop outfit.
The rest of the album seamlessly plays all the way through to the end. The lyrics are matter-of-fact, embracing honest events (“stoned in my room at 3 am”) with tight and lively instrumentals to match. I’m so happy I resurfaced this disc this morning. Miniature Tigers just started their fall tour, check the schedule here. The guys are bringing a ton of 7” copies of Goldskull with them and you can grab yourself a free copy by stopping at their merch table and drawing a little something something for the band (there’s rules).

Introducing yet another out-there and mysterious group, Niki And The Dove.
What is there to really say about this act, they keep it pretty simple for us. Malin Dahlström is behind that strong, eclectic voice while Gustaf Karlöf pens the songs. It’s an all around different sound then our ears are used to. Those heavy, thunderous beats and bass-line create a dark theme with intense lyrics to match in song, “Mother Protect”. It’s also got some Euro-club elements too. My favorite is just before the 3 minute mark where Malin is actually chanting, almost like an anthem:
“You can’t keep me down, I am done, I am furious. Fear the lioness paint her face black and golden.”
And for those of you who need a little visual stimulation to go with your audio (courtesy of the band’s YouTube channel):

Here’s some heavy, driving-guitar tracks for your Tuesday evening.
Enjoy them.
Less Unless – Civil Civic Now this is some good fucking noise. I absolutely love the music these Euro-based Australians create. A little bit of lo-fi mixed with some thick, jamming guitars and hard-hitting drums and you’ve got yourself Civil Civic. I really couldn’t decide whether to post this track or my other favorite, “Run Overdrive.” Their blog is entertaining as well.
Gatito – Guadalupe Plata I have no idea what they’re saying but I like this rockabilly jam. I’m not too keen on these Spaniards but they’re currently at SXSW. It’s a quick, fun track from this three piece who keep it real and stick to an old-school bluesy rock style. We shall see what’s to come, I’m curious to hear about how they played down in Austin.
Dissolve – The Chemical Brothers enough said, this song is amazing.
yes. yes. yes.
