It feels like almost a relief to be back on the East Coast, only because I’m willing to admit that I probably could not handle another day of Coachella. It’s a beast of a wild time. This year we were able to expand our camping group to 20+ different people and there’s no telling what next year will be like.
If you haven’t noticed, the festival scene has exploded as of late. I can’t turn my head around without hearing of a new event packed with a slew of artists waiting to wow you. Each one is entirely different from the next, varying in genres, tiers of artists, camping vs. non-camping; these things have seriously evolved. This is where the music industry is going.
During the phenomenal Radiohead set on Saturday night Thom Yorke said it best, music is about being together and the sense of community we have at these things. To me music is extremely personal, it performs as the soundtrack to my life, a constant ebb and flow. But being in the middle of a sea of tens of thousands of people all consumed by the lights, synths, and strong percussion; it really felt like something else.
As Coachella is one of the only places I will completely keep my phone off and separated for days at a time, I won’t be giving you the minute-by-minute timeline of what I was doing. I will give you some insight on who I saw after 3pm those days though, and trust me, that heat was brutal in the campgrounds before the sun went down. Continue reading →
Isn’t that the saying? Something about cats away and mice will play? Anyway, Lindseys gone away to Coachella for the next few days (pshh, must be nice!) SO DARYL AND I ARE TAKING OVER AND DOING WHATEVER THE HELL WE WANT !!!!!!!! Just hope I don’t burn the house…..
Hey, “Burning Down The House“. Talking Heads Dig it:
The time has come ladies and gentleman. I am set to depart for LAX within the next couple of hours, then Indio bound I am (after a mandatory In-N-Out pitstop of course).
I had an amazing time at Coachella last year and I’m looking forward to all of the new people I will meet, the incredible music I’ll be able to drift around to, and simply being outside for 5 days straight.
I may be tweeting every now and then, might upload a cool picture to the facebook page, but if you need some music in the interim, just check out the tag cloud to the right. Every post on the site has various tags at the bottom. By clicking on any of the links you’ll be taken to many more posts that fit that description…explore the site a bit and have fun.
Otherwise, I’ll be back Monday ready to go. Leave a comment if you’ve got any Cali/Coachella suggestions, I’d love to hear some. And who knows, maybe a scheduled post might pop up from the other contributors while I’m gone, stay tuned.
Last summer at Lollapalooza, I saw these guys going wild in the tent during our final and muddiest day of the festival. Since I was there for coverage purposes, I left Sunday as my day for play. Modeselektor was an integral part of that day.
I can’t wait for their heavy, heavy sound and I seriously can’t wait to be surrounded by thousands of people dancing along. Watch bass-thumping animation from François Chalet in their latest video for their song “Berlin” featuring Miss Platnum.
Meet Breakbot, otherwise known as Thibaut Berland, a smooth French producer and DJ who’s doing his part to keep the disco/electro scene alive. I don’t know too much about him but one thing is clear, this man can enhance any track with his midas touch of a remix. Check out a dash of his work below, I think he’s going to throw on one massive dance party at Coachella this year.
With a Snoop and Dr. Dre headlining show, I’m sure it’s going to be absolutely insane at the closing of Coachella’s final weekend.
There wasn’t really any chance of predicting what Kanye was going to do last year, that man will do whatever the hell he wants. But, Snoop Dogg just put out this electro-dance mix and now I’m pretty thrown. And really fucking excited.
Listen and download his DJ set below, and let me know what you think.
We have reached the home stretch of the countdown ’til Coachella, there’s an end in sight finally. A month or so to go and then I’ll be immersed in the California desert. Sleeping some cold nights and sweating out equally scorching afternoons all whilst being completely surrounded by music, it’s what I’d like to call a perfect vacation (well..for the time being).
Dawes is an indie-rock band hailing from Malibu that create music soaked with 70′s blue-collar charm and singalongs full of tambourine percussion. I admit, it took me quite awhile to give their latest release, Nothing is Wrong, a full and proper listen but now I understand their sound. No longer lost, I believe these guys could be a fantastic early evening set that I want to listen to sprawled in the cool grass.
After their time in Indio, the band will be making stops all over the United States. Listener-friendly in all of the right ways, right-click the tracks below.
One of the many reasons why I fucking love Coachella.
Azealia Banks is one bad ass female..and this is just the beginning. Think of an underground Nicki Minaj with slicker beats and samples, though, that wouldn’t even come close to this 20-year old’s talent. She’s got some incredibly raw lyrics, ridiculous and versatile flow, singing her own hooks and rapping the verses.
All I know is that shit will erupt when she begins to spit the opening lines for “212.”Check out a slew of her singles below and just wait for the debut album, she’s going to be hitting the charts hard before you even know it.
