I was a bit excited when I found out that Mick Jagger had been featured on a dance track with Will.I.Am of the Black Eyed Peas.
I enjoy some mindless fist pumping music just as much as the next bro (it’s not mindless if you appreciate the sound design that is involved in synthesis) and my dad was a Stones fan so I grew up liking them, too.
I was disappointed when I first heard the original track, however, as I felt it lacked a bit of energy and punch. R3hab just fixed all that by dropping this free remix of the track a few days ago. While the original track may go home, this one goes hard…like a boner (pun credited to Will.I.Am).
Here at What’s Protocol? we’ve always welcomed music submissions because if you think we’ll like it, then we’ll damn well listen to it. Winter’s chillier temperatures will surely be upon us soon which has made me stock up on scarves, sweaters, and other necessities to get me through the upcoming seasonal change. Well, the blog’s also been preparing as well.
Remember those days when being able to rep the number 23 in your rec basketball game was IT? Remember when cleanly getting down “around the world” on your Yo-Yo made you the coolest kid in class? Remember how you always forgot to feed your Tamagotchi during recess? Remember when the local shop didn’t have the newest Beanie Baby and just you HAD to have it?
Yeah, well I’m also sure you remember a little something something that goes by the name of Jock Jams. Those series of wacky up-tempo compilations that now are the soundtrack to cheerleading competitions everywhere IS BACK. Yep. We are bringing those famed obnoxious yet Space Jam-esque sounds back for your listening pleasure (and amusement). Over the past month we’ve organized a slew of musicians to contribute their own takes on some standout tracks, but here’s where it gets fun…
Think you’ve got what it takes to make the W.P. compilation? Shoot us an email, drop a sound in our dropbox, hit us up on tumblr, tweet at us, and perhaps show us some love on Facebook. We’re all ears and we’d love to see you’re own take and what you can come up with. Lastly, for some inspiration:
PS: Shout out to Poppa Rainmaker for inspiring this!
Halloween is my favorite holiday. I’m a black cat. Duh.
Also, ones show off all their oneness on Halloween and zeroes try to dress up like ones and it doesn’t work. This year I’m dressing up like a dog. There’s a song about the dog. Actually, there’s two songs about the dog.
So celebrate the holiday that celebrates me. The black cat. Fist pump. Bob for apples. Bob for bitches. Bob for ones. Puma with ones. Party with ones. Be a one. You’re a one. I’m a one!? I’m a one. I’m meowt. Peace.
Earlier I wrote a post explaining my sorrow as some of my family members were killed this week. My sorrow continued on until I saw the following music video:
They are wearing facepaint in the video!!! It has been a dream of mine to institute Facepaint Fridays and this video reminded me of that. I am responsible for escalating things during pregaming. Facepaint is an extreme escalation! Also, the song is titled “All the Good”.
I didn’t listen to the lyrics because I’m a cat, but I’ll assume this is a message that I should celebrate “all the good” things about my relatives. So everyone go out and party like there is no tomorrow!!! Use this mix by DJ AD to get you started:
It’s Friday. Rebecca Black. Black Friday. Thanksgiving. Thank God it’s Friday. TGIF. ABC. Full House. Step by Step. Family Matters. Carl Winslow. Cop. Cop this mix. Cop that mix. Mix and match. Awesome match. Friday Night Smackdown. Smell what the Rock is cookin? Cookin. Recipe. Recipe for success. Dress for success. Dressed up. Dressed down. Get down. Dance. Club. Dancing and clubs mix well. Dance mix. DJ Ed Smooth Fall Dance Mix!!!!!
Fannypack Friday. It’s Friday, wear a fannypack. Carry stickers and Snickers. Give them to ones. Party with ones. Start drinking early. Pregame! Wanna do shots? Do shots! Wanna do a beer bong? Do a beer bong! Party into the early hours of Caturday morning. Wait, you’ve never heard of Fannypack Friday? You’ve gotta be kitten me!
By the way, I’m Pregame Puma. I’m the mascot of pregaming. I escalate things and I only party with ones. I like posts. Scratching posts. Blog posts. Posting up. Post-it notes. Post to post. East post to the West post. Take another shot. Now fist pump.
Here’s a song you can dance to. It’s called “Wildcat” and it’s by one of my favorite bands. They’re called Catacatcat. Listen to it. Take a shot every time you hear the jungle cat. Now take another shot. Beer bong. Go talk to that one. Do it. Take a shot.
I spend most of my summer weekends rocking out at the Jersey Shore. Not in the same city that that those morons on tv, I hang in Bro Isle City. Now while we are on opposite sides of the IQ bell curve from the apes, we still do enjoy raging. This means we listen to the same thumping beats as our less intelligent counterparts.
Why did I start this post with that paragraph? To build my credibility for giving out this new award: The Jersey Shore Fist Pump of Approval. On Tuesday Lindsey and I were lucky enough to take in a concert at the Electric Factory in Philadelphia. Ellie Goulding headlined and the recipient of the internet’s newest and greatest award opened.
The Bag Raiders opened their set with some mellower tunes, though they would still be considered dance tunes. They slowly built energy towards some huge thumping indie dance anthems that reminded me much of the music I hear during the weekend. Normally the stuff you were hear in Bro Isle comes from Usher, Pitbull, LMFAO, David Guetta, Black Eyed Peas, etc. After hearing these guys live, I think the DJs along the coastline could sneak one or two of their songs into their sets without offending the majority of the crowd who prefer to hear only mainstream artists and songs they know all the words to.
These guys could inspire legitimate fist pumps, and that deserves an award. Check out the three tracks below as an introduction to the bag Raiders if you need one, then go explore the rest of their music.
