[Coachella] 7 days.

father john misty coachella 2013

The man behind many projects, monikers, you name it..I believe has finally found a home.

After hearing catalogues of work over the years, Father John Misty, sounds like J. Tillman’s most natural state. The strumming guitar comes out easy, the lyrics sound old and wise, and the easy-going percussion keeps a steady rhythm track to track. There’s more of a rock element present that’s white-washing his original folky sound into something slightly harsher. I also super dig the organ play as well.

BONUS:   If you’re a big J. Tillman fan then I’d suggest heading on over to the awesome music blog, Slowcousticand their homage to his album, Long May You Run.

bFunk’s End of the Year Roundup [2012]

It seems as the years go on, more critics are becoming increasingly cynical about the classic “year-end” lists everyone tends to put out.

Top 10 free non-commerical Soundcloud only releases of 2012, Top 25 rap mixtapes not including Rick Ross or Gucci Mane, Top 5 non-Dubstep EDM DJ albums released from April 17th to October 27th, The 3 most influential Eastern European female pop singers…blah blah blah. There are a lot of complaints. Ex: “They are all the same”, blah blah, whatever Thom York/Radiohead put out, some new indie band with only one release out that hasn’t even gone on tour yet, Grimes, the new Kendrick Lamar album, Animal Collective, The XX, Some weird rapper, …Well fuck, I actually like these lists a lot. I enjoy looking back and reviewing the year, seeing what new songs, artists, and albums I spent most my time listening to and discovering. At the same time I can see what other people spent their time listening to and I can find great new tunes as well.

With that little rant behind me. I give thee…my 2012 list of favorite songs, EPs, albums, mixtapes, and overall new music related…things. This is basically a collection of the music that shaped my year. I’ll try and keep it somewhat concise and organized in some sort of manner but we’ll see how that goes.

You conquered me when you let me be.

I’m missing on some warm guitar chords and a little bit of twang for my soon-to-be approaching summer days.

Last Love – Matrimony This song is just beautiful, plain and simple.  I could dedicate an entire post drooling over them, but I won’t…for now.

Year In The Kingdom - J. Tillman I’m serious about this one, the lyrics are amazing.  Simple guitar, intense song.

Cupcakes For The Army – Hezekiah Jones I cannot tell you how much I love that this band calls Philadelphia home.  It’s an old one but a slow burner.

I Think I Love You – The Guggenheim Grotto Now this is a throwback for real.  I remember I got this off an old Paste Sampler..when they still had physical dics..when they were still around.  Anyways, if you know me well enough you may recognize this.

Lastly. congratulations to my roommateEEEE for graduating college today from my Alma mater (ok, it’s been like a year…), Temple U.  Cute.

Right-click and enjoy.

BONUS: TAOS – Menomena A heavy hitting track that will give you the one-two punch.
