Spotlight: Мишка

Mishka

(Мишка) seriously kills everything…if that makes sense, actually it may make a lot more sense than I originally thought it did. Nevermind. The Brooklyn, New York clothing brand has been completely taking over the dope ass street apparel world for a minute now (aka a few years) with it’s blend of comic book, horror, punk, cartoon, and a variety of other inspired designs and artwork. The brand has nuzzled itself rather deeply within my wardrobe and I am always on the hunt for more of their “dope gear” as it drops each season.

You might be asking yourself, “Dan, why the hell are you talking about clothes, and S-in’ these guys Ds and shit?” Well, first of all that wasn’t very nice, and secondly (of all) I make the above comments here on What’s Protocol? because apart from their clothed-goods-stuffs, the brand has their hand (and quite fine taste) in putting out, sharing and in a way “breaking” fantastic new music. The past year or so you’ve seen me rave about one of my favorite acts out, Supreme Cuts, whose Chrome Lips mixtape with Haleek Maul was put out by Mishka. Also artists like The Drum, Mr. Muthafuckin’ eXquire, Main Attrakionz, Lakutis, The Hood Internet, Ultrademon’s (Seapunk) Occupy mixtape, and several others were all either featured on Mishka’s “Bloglin” or actually released by the brand themselves.

This crew is seriously on point with everything they do and I’ve got nothing but love for them. Over the next….extended period of time, I’m sure I’ll post up some gems that I come across from them, and I just wanted to send them some love and good vibes their way since they definitely deserve it.

Head over to their website to keep up with their happenings.

Cheers.

Hey Ma, Wassup

Just got this track in from Steel Tipped Dove. He produced it while Lakutis, Big Baby Gandhi, Cutty Carmichael, and DVS provided the verses.

The drums knock hard and the flows are tight. That makes it a good rap song. Stream it or download it free below.

BONUS: Also got this track in from SGC, check it out.

Lakutis Lakutis Lakutis Lakutis

Hi everybody! Lakutis dropped his mixtape yesterday the other day. It’s free so you should probably download the whole thing, it’s pretty good.

Highlights:

“Lakutis in the House”

This track was produced by friend of the blog, Chaz Van Queen, and is uptempo with a pretty nice synth line. As I am jumping into the world of DJing this song will most definitely be included in my sets.

“Swann Gangg”

Another tight synth line, another tight song. Lakutis fucks our favorite everything here and rapper/excellent-Twitter guy DVS lends a verse.

“I’m Better Than Everybody”

Hip hop culture is about being the best, right? Lakutis gets straight to the point here with the hook. Kool A.D. from Das Racist has a guest verse on this song and I was actually on hand when it was recorded. That makes me feel super cool. It happened at Chaz’s apartment after we filmed the “Do You Like It?” music video. There were latency issues, but it all got worked out.

The rest of the songs are good, too. I’m not gonna write about them all. That’s boring. Also I’m lazy. Just listen:

ChazVanLive

Here Chaz does a move from the P90X program during an instrumental break.

Friend of the blog Chaz Van Queen is performing in New York tomorrow night and he would like for you to join him. He is set to open the show up and will be followed by the Disco Monkeys and Emergency Service, who will be recording the show for their next music video.

If you’ve been keeping up with the blog you know who Chaz is. If not, he is a very talented musician specializing in hip hop and r&b who is currently studying music and plans to release his album “A Smile for You” very shortly. The Disco Monkeys are in fact a disco band, but the band is made up entirely of humans. This means that their band name is half of a lie. Emergency Service lists their genres as pop, reggae, rock, pop rock, and hip hop. I’d throw in that they sound a bit ska-ish at times, too. This makes them the everything bagel of music, or maybe a meat lover’s pizza. They are headlining the show which starts at 9 PM and is located at Dominion in NY. Event info here.

Now Emergency Service isn’t the only band Chaz will be opening for this week. On Saturday night he will start things off at the Das Racist concert in Washington, DC as the Relax Tour rolls through. The show will take place at the 9:30 Club and will start at 11:30 PM. You can get your tickets here if you haven’t done so yet. The show will also feature Despot, Danny Brown, and Lakutis.

We will be on hand for this one so expect videos and audio from it. Or don’t. We could run into technical difficulties. Then you’d be disappointed. Want to be not disappointed? Listen to this:

When I Go – Emergency Service

F’n Your Life Up!! – Chaz Van Queen

Die Like A Rockstar – Danny Brown

Amazing (feat. Lakutis) – Das Rascist

The Last Huzzah! (feat. Despot, Das Racist, Danny Brown & El-P) – Mr. Muthafuckin’ eXquire
