[Nice In The Headphones] Mecca:83

alexis davis roy ayers project

There’s always something so lush and soulful coming off the fingertips of the English beat-maestro, Mecca:83. Mean on the raw drum machine with stacks of old vinyl just waiting to be sampled, this Manchester-based artist has such a great flow going on.

It’s been awhile since I’ve wandered over to his Soundcloud page, so here’s some of my recent favorites to smooth out your mid-week. Throw the headphones on and enjoy.

Also be sure to check out his newer project, Alexis Davis, which just dropped an incredibly fluid track dedicated to the master, Roy Ayers.

Sunday Listening: Sketchbook Pieces

Mecca:83 and his collaborative crew are in the process of coming up with something brand new for you guys and while working, he had time to round up some of his favorite tracks for a free download.

I’m at the beach this weekend enjoying some rays and the laid-back nature of a seasonal town and this track listing bumps ever so nicely. Kick back and listen to the downtempo beats, nu-jazz flavor, and various samples and remixes all featured in this 12-track compilation.

Hold me until it’s over.

From spending Friday through Sunday in straight heat and direct sunlight, it’s no wonder my body is all out of sorts when presented with a day full of rain showers.

With that being said, Egyptian Hip Hop found their way perfectly to my ears today. These young guys may not have much of an online presence anymore, but I still thoroughly enjoy their (at times) dissonant guitars and unique sound.

I feel this hesitation every time we speak.

From the ceaseless guitars, tight percussion, and pleading vocals, the boundless energy in Clockwork Radio’s latest single, “Feel It Up,” will just not give. I’m won over with the easy sound and the group chorus, perfect track for any summer playlist.

Be sure to grab the song below and then head over to their bandcamp to stream their recently released EP, Ubuntu.

Chapter Two (For Lucie) – Mecca:83

It’s going to be just a fine day. I’ve got a new instrumental track from the lovely Mecca:83 to report.

If you haven’t checked out any of his past work then this fresh track will school you in all the right ways. “Chapter Two (For Lucie)” comes stocked with fundamentally sound hip-hop beats and careful layers of samples and effects. There’s also a fabulous strings sample to neatly wrap everything up at the conclusion.

Mecca:83 – Midnight Kids

We’ve talked about this cat before, his smooth production and beats are just too hard to ignore. I want to throw a classy dinner party with his swanky tunes guiding the night’s soundtrack. This song is a bonus track off the Manchester artist’s album Life Sketches Vols 1&2.
