I Feel Dumb (My Stupid Brain)

These days I can really relate to Fanzine’s new single “My Stupid Brain.” Been feeling kind of dumb lately (if that makes sense?) and I could definitely use a little pick me up.

This is one of those enjoyable, mellow-feeling and honest songs. Kind of a downer, but it just sounds good. Nice guitar melodies with honest lyrics like, “your brain’s bored of me and mine is too“. You can tell the band’s sincerity is right out there on this one.

Check it out below and you can pre-order their 7″ single of the song along with “Roman Holiday” over at Fat Possum.

You conquered me when you let me be.

I’m missing on some warm guitar chords and a little bit of twang for my soon-to-be approaching summer days.

Last Love – Matrimony This song is just beautiful, plain and simple.  I could dedicate an entire post drooling over them, but I won’t…for now.

Year In The Kingdom - J. Tillman I’m serious about this one, the lyrics are amazing.  Simple guitar, intense song.

Cupcakes For The Army – Hezekiah Jones I cannot tell you how much I love that this band calls Philadelphia home.  It’s an old one but a slow burner.

I Think I Love You – The Guggenheim Grotto Now this is a throwback for real.  I remember I got this off an old Paste Sampler..when they still had physical dics..when they were still around.  Anyways, if you know me well enough you may recognize this.

Lastly. congratulations to my roommateEEEE for graduating college today from my Alma mater (ok, it’s been like a year…), Temple U.  Cute.

Right-click and enjoy.

BONUS: TAOS – Menomena A heavy hitting track that will give you the one-two punch.

Keep that in mind, that we’re older and jaded.

Decided my iPod needed an overhaul badly today..and it’s still taking me forever to load this thing up with songs I want to listen to.  I guess it’s because I go through almost every song in my library single-handedly picking exactly what I listen to. Ok, so maybe it’s me and my obsessive self but I’m not trying to be running, biking, or standing on the subway and some awful song comes on.  I’d much rather be able to let my iPod flow in shuffle..

Anyway, here are some excellent tracks I came across while I was still in the beginning of the alphabet obviously.

Pilgrim – Aderbat Just a Pennsylvania-local band – Doylestown (last regional rail stop what what).  Had this solid little jam just waiting to be re-discovered again.  Quite mellow eh?

A Way Out – Calvin Markus Where is this guy?  I can’t find anything on him..doesn’t matter love the song.  Interesting voice and some nice guitar.

Another City, Another Sorry – The Answering Machine Love me some english indie rock and this fast paced song is from their debut back in 2008.  They recently have released another album, Lifeline, which you can listen to right here.

Static Waves – Andrew Belle (feat. Katie Herzig) Oh, was I obsessed with this song a couple of summers ago.  Hearing it today might stir it up again.

Colorful Day - Alan Pownall With a sorrowful sounding voice like that, how could I not love this song?  His vocals go hand in hand with the soft plucking of his acoustic guitar.  Incredible song.

Hard To Find – American Analog Set Something reminds me a tiny, tiny bit of Death Cab in this song.  Maybe it’s lead singer, Andrew Kenny’s voice..maybe it’s just the chill, downtempo sound these guys have.  Who knows, but it’s definitely solid.

And now I’m off to bed, enjoy.
