good “vibrations”

Knoxville’s own is back again! (I somehow missed this one)
Anyway, this time Walsh gets a little help from Persona La Ave on this 80s-islandy-anthematic-groove-funk number “Vibrations.”
This is smooth as hell! o0o we!!!

I’m currently on the road with Laser Sex and have a bit of downtime before the boys go on tonight at the Stone Church in Newmarket, New Hampshire.
That being said, It’s really loud in here and I can’t actually hear anything BUT I’m already a huge Walsh fan and after cruising the inter-web a bit I found out he just dropped this new track “Girlfriend” the other day.
I’m going to just take a chance and say it’s good. Hopefully I’m right.

These days I can really relate to Fanzine’s new single “My Stupid Brain.” Been feeling kind of dumb lately (if that makes sense?) and I could definitely use a little pick me up.
This is one of those enjoyable, mellow-feeling and honest songs. Kind of a downer, but it just sounds good. Nice guitar melodies with honest lyrics like, “your brain’s bored of me and mine is too“. You can tell the band’s sincerity is right out there on this one.
Check it out below and you can pre-order their 7″ single of the song along with “Roman Holiday” over at Fat Possum.

I wrote about Supreme Cuts and their wonderful “Trouble” EP a few weeks back. Well, fancy that they dropped a new track without me knowing it!!! I like it.

Ha get it? cuz it’s Saturday. Boy we are all pretty witty over here at What’s Protocol?
Anyway, I love The Weeknd (and The WeekendS) and his new track “Initiation” that dropped approximately 14 days ago is good. It has more of a sinister sound than some of his other tracks and has this cool pitch-shifting thing going on with some of the vocals.
Check it out and enjoy the weekend! (and The Weeknd)

The Bailey Hounds just released the title track to their upcoming debut album “Along the Gallows” for free over at their website. The full length LP is set to be released on October 30th. If you’d like to hear more songs off of the album, check out the live set of theirs we posted a few days ago.
This cute, darling little tune by Oregon Bike Trails brings me right back to my high school days. But it actually makes me feel good.

If you think it’s cute and darling too, go grab the 7″ from Father/Daughter Records.

Sean Bowie is my dude.
I’ve been diggin’ on most of Teams releases since around the time he and fellow beatsmith Star Slinger put out their split EP earlier this year. Since then Teams has dropped his album Dxys Xff (which happens to be one of my favorite looking records of my collection* see bottom post for picture*) some notable mixtapes, and a number of sexy single tracks as well. Everything he’s been putting out as of late perfectly fits the lofi-glam-sex-beat (whatever the hell that means) style of music I’ve been into lately
This new track Mile High is straight sex for my (and hopefully your) ears. A couple clips of earlier versions were released about a week or so ago but this final reworking is the best.
Currently you can get Mile High on a limited edition Coral Records Compilation CD for $5 bucks!!!
I personally can’t wait until teams drops another full/physical release full of his own stuff, but until then, I can’t complain about these singles dropping.
Listen and enjoy.

Last night I found the greatest song ever. (okay maybe not ever)
But how great is it? Great enough for me to buy the guy’s album….ON CASSETTE without even hearing an entire song. I’ll admit that it being about 5:00 in the morning may have had something to do with my eager purchase, but also it was only 6 bucks AND it’s fantastic.
The song starts out with a little retro disco groove and when that little beachy ( kind of reminds me of the String Cheese Incident) guitar riff comes in…oh God, forget about it. The whole song just grooves, from the steel drums, the synth lines, everything. I even love the catchy simple lyrics.
Do yourself (or I guess myself) a favor and give this little gem a listen. Hopefully when the tape comes in the mail I’ll be able to see how the rest of the album is…once I track down a cassette player.
