Songs For Your Weekend Moods: Star Slinger edition

I haven’t had time to round-up a weekend moods post in awhile, so why not bring it back with some Star Slinger to kick things off?

This UK fellow is no stranger to our iTunes libraries, we’re all massively guilty of keeping him heavy on rotation here at what’s protocol? If you’re not familiar with the talented jack-of-all-trades, then all you really need to know is whatever he puts his hands on and produces ultimately turns into gold.

Have at a sampling of some of his latest releases below, don’t get too weird.

Bad Bitches (Feat. Stunnaman & LIL B) – Star Slinger

Gimme – Star Slinger

We Stay Up All Night (Feat. Blaya & Roses Gabor) (Star Slinger Remix) – Buraka Som Sistema

Minted – Star Slinger

Night Sky (prod. Star Slinger) – Beau Young Prince

Star Slinger – Before I Move Off (Mount Kimbie)

Christmas came a little early this year as Mr. Darren Williams (aka Star Slinger) dropped a new refix of “one of [his] favourite tracks of the past year”, Mount Kimbie’s “Before I Move Off.”

Really nice production on this one and it couldn’t be more different than the original track if it tried (I actually like it better, but shhh). Lots of Star Slinger magic, chopped up vocals, beeps, and boops, and a big sounding crash cymbol/gong.

Check it out:

Before I Move Off (Star Slinger Refix) – Mount Kimbie

Bonus: check out the official video for the original but please don’t go having a seizure on us.

Mix For Carrot Creative

So for the past .

Every since graduating.

…Since the beginning of time, I have been searching for a job. A real job, a good, fulfilling, enjoyable, meaningful job that I can call a real career. Maybe it’s a pipe dream, but I have convinced myself that I am going to find a job that I’m going to completely love. One of those “not your ordinary workplace” type of jobs in a cool environment with smart, funny, progressive thinking, coworkers working together to create, market, produce, advertise, cook, bake, build, make, design…whatever it is that they do.

I’ve come across a few of these companies/businesses in my search but it wasn’t until about a week ago that I found out that Carrot Creative was hiring. This Brooklyn, NY based full service social media agency exudes all of the qualities of the type of company I dream of working for. Progressive, different, Smart, with enjoyable atmosphere. You know “hip” and “cool”. Well, I’m hip(?), I’m cool (?), (right?).

Since they are quite progressive and forward thinking, their hiring process is quite different from your average “send us your resume and cover letter and if you happen to know somebody who works here maybe we’ll get back to you” type of business.  Right on their website they say they get lots of applications, and if you want to “stand out from all the noise, figure out how to get our attention”.

So Carrot Creative. That’s what I’m doing. I’m calling you out!

What this white girl is listening to.

Obvi.

I like to make playlists…a lot. Many of my active friends ask me to create something nuts to listen to whilst working out. So when you see me running the streets, this is usually a healthy mix of what’s playing through the ear buds.

Have a creative theme for a playlist or DJ mix? Send suggestions to whatsprotocol[at]gmail.com. We like emails.

And of course I had to include this jam (RIP Guru):

Moment Of Truth – Gangstarr

Mile High

Sean Bowie is my dude.

I’ve been diggin’ on most of Teams releases since around the time he and fellow beatsmith Star Slinger put out their split EP earlier this year. Since then Teams has dropped his album Dxys Xff (which happens to be one of my favorite looking records of my collection* see bottom post for picture*) some notable mixtapes, and a number of sexy single tracks as well. Everything he’s been putting out as of late perfectly fits the lofi-glam-sex-beat (whatever the hell that means) style of music I’ve been into lately

This new track Mile High is straight sex for my (and hopefully your) ears. A couple clips of earlier versions were released about a week or so ago but this final reworking is the best.

Currently you can get Mile High on a limited edition Coral Records Compilation CD for $5 bucks!!!

I personally can’t wait until teams drops another full/physical release  full of his own stuff, but until then, I can’t complain about these singles dropping.

Listen and enjoy.

Slangin’ Gold!!!

Roughly 7 hours ago one of my current very most favorite dudes, Star Slinger, dropped a new 6 song EP.

Shits gold ! So smooth, funky, and straight up sex (especially “Do It Myself“..hehe, sorry). Apparently it was just some “stuff” he “had lying around”.  Good God.

This is the real.

Whoa.  It’s December already?  I always forget how crazy busy this time of year is.

Anyways, I’ve been meaning to write this post for awhile now..and finally I have gotten around to selecting some songs for my brother that I like to work out to.  So here you go Nick, add these to the iPod :)  Hope the rest of you enjoy.

Elizabeth Fraser (Cocteau Twins Rework) – Star Slinger A little on the low key side, but I have much love for Star Slinger.  I highly recommend their remixes.

Crystal Mines – CFCF Bedroom DIY artists just don’t run out… great, heavy electronic music from this Canadian.

Something – Copy

Never Good Enough (The Killabits Remix) – Major Lazer I usually am not a fan of Major Lazer but this is some sick dubstep.  This is a great song to run to.

Creepy Phone Calls – Tobacco Tom Fec, aka the crazy man behind this music is just skilled.  This song is absolutely nuts, listen and you’ll know what I mean.

Sorry To Interrupt – Theophilus London Never can go wrong with some Theo.

All Things Go (w/ Sufjan Stevens) – Chiddy Bang The song years ago that introduced me to Chiddy Bang, that I instantly fell in love with, and that I spread around like wildfire.

I Don’t Feel It Anymore (George Raquet Remix) – William Fitzsimmons

Futuretapes - CSLSX

Embrace The Martian - Kid Cudi This is my Cudi.

River – Germany Germany I love when everything starts kicking in at 0:40 seconds. Seriously..how could I not.

Happy workouts.
