Graceland.

I’ve always been a big Tallest Man on Earth fan. I came across this cover he did of Paul Simon’sGraceland” and immediately fell in love with it. I remember listening to it on repeat for about 8 times in a row. “Graceland” was already a fantastic song but the rawness of Kristian Matsson’s voice in the stripped down production adds a whole ‘nother dimension to the song.

Give it a listen (or 7) below:

Mix For Carrot Creative 2.0

Yep. I’m at it again.

About two weeks ago I applied for a position with Brooklyn, NY based full service social media agency Carrot Creative. I created a fancy mix for them with cute and witty cover art but sadly, I got turned down :( BUT! I did at least get their attention and I am not giving up just yet. They posted up a new job opportunity as a “Community Manager” and I’m shooting for it.

HEY CARROTS I’M CALLING YOU OUT ! (again)

Hire me! Or At least give me an opportunity to talk to you guys! I think my fellow What’s Protocol-ers (and many other people) can vouch that I’m a good dude, a hard worker, personable, rad, hip, cool… I swear!

“The” (MY) Year in Music..Part 2

Back with the second part of my most memorable albums/EPs of the year.

Tallest Man on Earth – “The Wild Hunt” and “Sometimes the Blues Is Just a Passing Bird”

It’s no secret I’m a big fan of the Tallest Man and this year he put out a fantastic full length and  nice little EP as well. These two pieces of music pick up right off where 2008s “Shallow Grave” left off AND add in a little extra instrumentation as well. Great Dylan-esque folk music.

Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti – “Before Today”

I’m only making a short mention about this one. This is one of those albums that I saw raved about for months on end and is at the tops of quite a few “BEST OF” lists. It wasn’t until recently (like maybe a month ago) that I finally gave in and listened to it. I was quite surprised. There is some really great “old” (like maybe 60s- 70s-early 80s) sounding music on here. Some of it reminds me of early Pink Floyd (maybe?). Anyway, this is certainly a memorable album for how much I’ve seen it talked about this year and I’m glad I gave in and listened.

The Black Keys -  “Brothers”

The Keys never disappoint me and their newest album is GREAT. A little different from their previous releases but (for the most part) it does not stray too far away from the duo’s signature sound. Great blues based rock and roll with some gospel thrown in for good measure.

Smoke Weed About It EP Cover Art

Walsh – “Smoke Weed About It”

Another EP I’ve already written about. I enjoyed it enough for me to buy it on tape. Sweet retro disco grooves, chillwavey hip hop beats and all around tasteyness.  Yes!!!

Wiz Khalifa – “Kush and Orange Juice”

Wiz was blowin up since last year and he is still on an upward climb. Love this mixtape. Nice smooth production, smooth rhymes, and hey to be honest..you just gotta love Kush and Orange Juice.

Curren$y, “Smokee Robinson”

Oh how ironic. Wiz and Curren$y are friends anyway. Finally got into Hot Spitta this year and I’m glad a did. I love his laid back rhymes and attitude as well as his ability to switch up his flows. Not rapping about anything life changing here but he did say he records basically the same song every time hes in the booth. Meh, that’s okay with me.

Although he did drop his new album “Pilot Talk 2″ this year as well, so far I’ve got to say I dug Smokee a bit more.

Okay I’ll be back with part 3 tomorrow…hopefully.
