bFunk’s End of the Year Roundup [2012]

It seems as the years go on, more critics are becoming increasingly cynical about the classic “year-end” lists everyone tends to put out.

Top 10 free non-commerical Soundcloud only releases of 2012, Top 25 rap mixtapes not including Rick Ross or Gucci Mane, Top 5 non-Dubstep EDM DJ albums released from April 17th to October 27th, The 3 most influential Eastern European female pop singers…blah blah blah. There are a lot of complaints. Ex: “They are all the same”, blah blah, whatever Thom York/Radiohead put out, some new indie band with only one release out that hasn’t even gone on tour yet, Grimes, the new Kendrick Lamar album, Animal Collective, The XX, Some weird rapper, …Well fuck, I actually like these lists a lot. I enjoy looking back and reviewing the year, seeing what new songs, artists, and albums I spent most my time listening to and discovering. At the same time I can see what other people spent their time listening to and I can find great new tunes as well.

With that little rant behind me. I give thee…my 2012 list of favorite songs, EPs, albums, mixtapes, and overall new music related…things. This is basically a collection of the music that shaped my year. I’ll try and keep it somewhat concise and organized in some sort of manner but we’ll see how that goes.

Nice In The Headphones: The Weeknd “Echoes Of Silence”

It’s here !!!!!

I’m quite an unabashed Weeknd fan and am into basically everything this guy has his hands on (okay that “Initiation“ song is kinda fucked up but it’s still awesome (I just revisited it and it is really awesome).  Anyway, the third and final album in the trilogy of music released this year just dropped the other night. “Echoes of Silence” sonically and more or less thematically picks up right off where “Thursday” (and House of Balloons before that) left off. Fantastic production, vocals, singing, drugs, crooning, sex, screaming, moaning, distortion, sex, noise, beats, everything.

I just got finished with my first listen through. I’m not sure where it fits ranking-wise with the other two albums but  I definitely like what I hear.

Oh yeah, and he covers “Dirty Diana.“

Mix For Carrot Creative

So for the past .

Every since graduating.

…Since the beginning of time, I have been searching for a job. A real job, a good, fulfilling, enjoyable, meaningful job that I can call a real career. Maybe it’s a pipe dream, but I have convinced myself that I am going to find a job that I’m going to completely love. One of those “not your ordinary workplace” type of jobs in a cool environment with smart, funny, progressive thinking, coworkers working together to create, market, produce, advertise, cook, bake, build, make, design…whatever it is that they do.

I’ve come across a few of these companies/businesses in my search but it wasn’t until about a week ago that I found out that Carrot Creative was hiring. This Brooklyn, NY based full service social media agency exudes all of the qualities of the type of company I dream of working for. Progressive, different, Smart, with enjoyable atmosphere. You know “hip” and “cool”. Well, I’m hip(?), I’m cool (?), (right?).

Since they are quite progressive and forward thinking, their hiring process is quite different from your average “send us your resume and cover letter and if you happen to know somebody who works here maybe we’ll get back to you” type of business.  Right on their website they say they get lots of applications, and if you want to “stand out from all the noise, figure out how to get our attention”.

So Carrot Creative. That’s what I’m doing. I’m calling you out!
