One thing I think many, many people in the entertainment industry, especially in the music industry overlook is more or less, the bigger picture. No matter what time of day it is, there is always some sort of human interaction going on in the world and more specifically, sharing. That’s what this is all about. Sharing something you’re passionate about, something that made you feel a certain way, something you believe someone else will enjoy just as much, maybe even more so.
Basically, I appreciate the free shit I get…even if it takes me awhile to get to it. No matter what it is, being on whatever media/PR email list between all of the projects/people/companies I’m involved with or receiving something at a show. I’ve got a shelf in my room dedicated to all of the albums I still need to go through, a hard drive full of music I would love to listen to so I’m finally starting to chip away. I’ll give it all a good hard listen and if something stands out then you’ll mostly likely see it on What’s Protocol?
I’m following a similar formula I use for this blog already. Today, it’s a band called Lion Versus based right here out of Philadelphia. I saw them a few months back when they played with Matrimony and other bands at The North Star. I was pretty impressed with the band’s down to earth feel and their calm and collected stage presence. I’m a sucker for the mandolin and their lead singer, Hilary White (who also designed their new album’s artwork), sounds pretty damn close to Natalie Merchant.
Five Hearts had some nice rotation going in my car for awhile this summer and has since found it’s way back in my room when I moved which is where I discovered it this morning. Enough already, just listen.
