Made In Iceland VI

made in iceland vi

With a total population of under half a million over an area of about 40,000 sq mi, Iceland is one of the most sparsely populated countries in the world. This fact alone intrigues me greatly.

Iceland Music Export is back with the sixth edition of their compilation series that showcases a diverse collection of artists from all over the country. A sampler of contemporary Icelandic music, listen to a handful of some of my favorite tracks and be sure to read up more on the project here.

Enjoy.

Salva : Odd Furniture

Last week Salva released his new 5 song EP, Odd Furniture, via Friends of Friends. This thing is pretty damn wild. Incorporating elements of house, juke, footwork, trap, bass, and other electro sounds, Salva creates a frenzied yet tightly cohesive sound.

What I also like about this collection of tracks is that the songs sort of blend together in that some of them have similar sounds or samples as the tracks before or after them. This technique kind of assists in the cohesiveness I mentioned earlier. Anywaysss, check out the dopeness, as well as his upcoming tour dates (w/ the homies Ryan Hemsworth, Daedelus, and Samo Soundboy) below.

[Nice In The Headphones] Elliphant

I’m still trying to wrap my head around the Swedish electro artist, Elliphant.

She’s got heavy jungle beats, snappy snares, and a dark, underlying house element that brings it all together. Elliphant’s self-titled debut EP is nothing but pure electronic grit. Tracks like “In The Jungle,” sound like they’re meant for the lowest lit of warehouses and grimey alleyways yet she turns the vibe completely around in, “Cian’t Hear It.”

Electric Zoo Sets!

Ello Ello!

So if you didn’t get to catch any of the 3 days at Electric Zoo this year (like I did not) and you actually enjoy electronic dance music (like I do), the good folks at Bleed House compiled a bunch of the sets from this year’s festival that were broadcasted over Sirius Radio. Follow el link-o and get into some dirty sets from the likes of A-Trak, Dada Life, Benny Bennassi, David Guetta, Kill The Noise, Pretty Litghts, Tiesto and a shit ton more!

Here are two extremely mean and abbrasive sets from Kill The Noise and Flux Pavilion & Doctor P :-)

Katikati Sway – Edamame

It’s beach season y’all and Edamame gives us another peek into his upcoming EP, Bay of Plenty.

I love the ocean effects including the seagulls layered behind those tropical beats in his track, “Katikati Sway.” Set for a July release, keep tabs on the Chicago-based musician here.

I need you to believe I have nothing up my sleeve.

Try and tell me not to dance to this track.

Afrobeta’s heavy dance sound will have you moving in just moments especially in their newest single, “Love Is Magic (DiscoTech Extended Remix).” The synths and bass come alive while this Miami duo works away at creating some serious electronic funk.

We’re just having fun, we don’t care who sees.

Where do I start?

It feels like almost a relief to be back on the East Coast, only because I’m willing to admit that I probably could not handle another day of Coachella. It’s a beast of a wild time. This year we were able to expand our camping group to 20+ different people and there’s no telling what next year will be like.

If you haven’t noticed, the festival scene has exploded as of late. I can’t turn my head around without hearing of a new event packed with a slew of artists waiting to wow you. Each one is entirely different from the next, varying in genres, tiers of artists, camping vs. non-camping; these things have seriously evolved. This is where the music industry is going.

During the phenomenal Radiohead set on Saturday night Thom Yorke said it best, music is about being together and the sense of community we have at these things. To me music is extremely personal, it performs as the soundtrack to my life, a constant ebb and flow. But being in the middle of a sea of tens of thousands of people all consumed by the lights, synths, and strong percussion; it really felt like something else.

As Coachella is one of the only places I will completely keep my phone off and separated for days at a time, I won’t be giving you the minute-by-minute timeline of what I was doing. I will give you some insight on who I saw after 3pm those days though, and trust me, that heat was brutal in the campgrounds before the sun went down. Continue reading

25 days.

With a Snoop and Dr. Dre headlining show, I’m sure it’s going to be absolutely insane at the closing of Coachella’s final weekend.

There wasn’t really any chance of predicting what Kanye was going to do last year, that man will do whatever the hell he wants. But, Snoop Dogg just put out this electro-dance mix and now I’m pretty thrown. And really fucking excited.

Listen and download his DJ set below, and let me know what you think.
