[Music Video] Woolgatherer – Conveyor

Remember how awesome we think Brooklyn’s Conveyor is?

Well, they finally put out a video to go with the completely nutty sounding track, “Woolgatherer.” It’s a bit beyond trippy with all of the close-up visuals and psychedelic effects.

Be sure to check out the video below and listen to the rest of their self-titled release here.

[Nice In The Headphones] Finding Time – Ten Million Sounds

ten million sounds

Whoa. It has been a minute since I’ve been on the blog, let alone the internet for that matter. Also, moving one block away from my previous apartment proved to be one of the most inconvenient moves of my lifetime. With that being said…I certainly wasn’t tuned out over the weekend. I still managed to get my music in.

I’ve been a fan of the NYC-based little indie label, Ten Million Sounds, ever since they dropped their first compilation, Morning LightManaging to slip under my radar this time around, the label recently dropped a new 13-track project titled, Finding TimeYour ears will be glazed over with laid-back beats that vary from piano driven instrumentals to completely chilled out, nu-jazz flavored hip hop beats. And all the proceeds go to the charity, Smile Train. It’s a wonderful thing, enjoy.

I don’t want to know.

caveman

I was first struck by New York’s Caveman when I heard singles trickling off of their debut albumCoCo Beware. With tracks like “Thankful” and “Old Friend,” I couldn’t shake off those surfy guitars and laid-back vocals.

The first single off their upcoming self-titled album (due out April 2nd via Fat Possum), “In The City,” adds more of a production quality to the five-piece’s already tight instrumentation. Searing synthesizers create a thicker low end, bringing more depth to the band’s sound. Keep these guys on your radar, and check out their first single drop below.

The band has also released a slew of tour dates, I’ve heard nothing but stellar live show reviews in the past.

Fly Zone – Le1f

This Past Monday the Prince of Dark York, Le1f, dropped his second mixtape Fly Zone, co-released by Himanshu’s (of Das Racist ::RIP::) Greedhead Label. The free tape features 13 tracks of ridiculous production and a bit more straightforward rapping than last year’s Dark York.  This tape is, for lack of a better word “rave-rap.” Just crazy sounding club/dance/rave/freakout jams and Le1f’s signature voice and style riding right along with them.

Le1f  ”arrived on the scene” some time last year and sort of emerged amongst the partnerships between left-field indie rappers and weird underground electronic producers (think Haleek Maul and Supreme Cuts, Hot Sugar and Kitty Pryde, or Antwon and Pictureplane) but at the same time Le1f produces many of his own beats; most of Dark York was self produced.

Anyway, check out the tape below and then check out the video for last year’s Dark York cut, “Wut,” which is catchy as hell.

[Late Night] Fables – REverb Rock

New York’s REverb Rock is a mixture of many things. He throws beats under ambient electronica, or sometimes he includes Teen Daze/Passion Pit-esque vocals on a track. It completely varies, and I think that’s what I really enjoy most about his new release, Fables.

Fans of anything along the experimental electronic spectrum will enjoy listening through the entire 6-track EP.

Preview Fables below and grab your copy at your own price here.

PAPASHANGO is the sound of the bass devouring the treble.
PAPASHANGO is atmospheric music to strip to.
PAPASHANGO is drugs.
PAPASHANGO does not care about your eardrums.
PAPASHANGO is the Young Thunder God.

PAPASHANGO loves you.

Well, we love you  too PaPASHANGO! And for good reason, and not just because you share the name of a classic WWF wrestler (also known by the names Kama, Kama Mustafa, The Godfather, and The Goodfather).

Anyway, we just got hipped to the sounds of this fresh New York producer (or production team or enigmatic enigma) a couple days ago and had to share these tunes. The Young Thunder God describes his sound as “Atmospheric Stripper Music” and from first listen to the new track “apophis” I totally understand the description. Gnarly bass, pitch-shifted vocal samples and raps, hip hop drums, and some screaming synths. Digging a little deeper into his catalogue on tracks like “the forecast” you can still hear the similar style and in comparison, the progression Shango has made thus far. Definitely some cool stuff and I’m interested in hearing where he continues to go with his future tracks. Jump on in below and take a listen. (and get your $1s ready)

Also, all of PShangs album artwork is done by Ubiq Designs (aka Anna Canfield) who has some pretty dope sketches, cards, and designs. Check em out too

[Music Video] Lose Myself – I Am Lightyear

If you haven’t familiarized yourself with what Converse has been up to as of late then I highly suggest you dig through their YouTube ch

annel. Their Rubber Tracks project invites emerging artists to come record at their facilities in NYC for free. That’s pretty awesome.

Recently they worked with Brooklyn’s I Am Lightyear. “Lose Myself” is by itself, a fantastic track but cue along a visual and it’s something magically intense. The video is highly involved, I think that’s what I’m most awed by.

Grab the track below, keep in touch with Converse, and stay tuned for more.

You’re everything I’ve done and I need something new.

I really, really dig this new sound from Yellow Ostrich. The raw lyrical honesty played out in new track, “Ghosts,” keeps everything afloat upon the newly added production style. It’s completely their own, yet there’s still homage to what works and what’s been keeping this group going.

Yellow Ostrich’s new release, Ghost, is due out on the 22nd and boasts wonderfully original artwork from NY-based artist, Graham Parks. Grab the limited edition vinyl if you can and be sure to right-click below.

Nice In The Headphones: New York EP – Preludes

Matthew Gasda does it again, creating sweeping bedroom dream pop that simply can stop you in your tracks.

I’m declaring this Nice In The Headphones because every now and then I like to listen to something more on the cinematic side, instead of the vast electronic spectrum I seem to have dug myself into lately. In New York EP, Gasda coats our ears with his soft calming voice, some dabbling of effects, and four easy tracks that drift in and out of consciousness.

It’s also interesting to refer back to their previous single, “Dresden,” which you can listen to here. Enjoy.
