Punchlines from the night before.

Yep. This is what I wanted to wake up to.

So unassuming this Jon Lindsay is, with his benign use of layering instruments (those horns came out of nowhere!). I dig all of it. “Vapor” comes from Lindsay’s upcoming LP #2, Summer Wilderness Program, which will sure be taking us in many different directions.

Feel good pop can never hurt, right? Stay tuned over at his Facebook page for more information on the upcoming release.

I feel this hesitation every time we speak.

From the ceaseless guitars, tight percussion, and pleading vocals, the boundless energy in Clockwork Radio’s latest single, “Feel It Up,” will just not give. I’m won over with the easy sound and the group chorus, perfect track for any summer playlist.

Be sure to grab the song below and then head over to their bandcamp to stream their recently released EP, Ubuntu.

It will all get better in time.

New music to report from The Micks camp.

Clocking in at almost 4 minutes long, “Go To Sleep,” is a perfect introductory song for your summer. Wailing garage rock with punk-like vocals, I love the build up at the very end, it’s almost unrelenting. I have such a soft spot for this type of music, especially when it’s free.

I’m not going to chase you when you run.

Summer’s fast approaching so bring on those hazy lo-fi guitars. The Tenessee psych-rock outfit, Tiger High, has got some impressive depth, especially with the help of captivating vocalist, Jake Vest.

Why Oh Why” has fabulous 50′s-esque harmonies with just enough reverb to really open the song up. As an incredibly catchy opener for their debut album, Myth Is This, you’re introduced to a blend of fuzz-rock that hits many different decades of influence. “Don’t Want To See You Till You Go,” is a psychedelic gem with thrashing guitars and unshakeable percussion.

Grab the tracks below and be sure to listen to the rest of their album here, which is also available on cassette for you analog lovers.

Is there another chance to take this cosmic dance?

For a band that “literally does not exist,” they sure produce some tightly packaged pop music. With permanent frontman being Oliver Ignatius, the rest of Ghost Pal operates as a collective of friends that are summoned whenever creativity strikes.

“Wildebeest Song” is the group’s newest single from their upcoming EP. I really enjoy the lyricism, and the many elements Ignatius blends along with all of the highs and lows. I’m truly amazed at what he was able to pack in this track that barely clocks in at just over two minutes.

Tour Diaries: Berlin and Back to Bad Salzuflen

So, we had a GREAT show at Intersoup in Berlin. The place was packed and the crowd seemed to really enjoy the show.  We headed back early in the AM to play a small show in Bad Salzuflen for an intimate but loving crowd in a small cafe.  Here are a few pics from the last few days.

Enjoy!

Hands

I just came across these gentlemen via the Small Plates newsletter from a few days ago. This LA band just released their debut EP, Massive Context, on 4/10 and I must say upon the first few seconds of my very first listen of “Warm Night Home” I knew I was into these guys.

Hands have a very enjoyable, bright and tight sound to them. Really nice grooves. Kind of think less…adventurous(?) Radiohead meets a less punk-rock Bloc Party with a little Strokes (maybe?).

Anyway, you can stream the whole EP on their Soundcloud page, pre-order it on neato orange vinyl HERE or purchase it on cd HERE. I suggest doing one or all three of those things.  Oh, and check out their rad video below (seriously it’s pretty cool).

We all know smoke rises and ashes fall.

It’s amazing what a change in scenery does for you. Just being able to see patches of grass that expand larger than a city lot, sprawling shopping centers, and being able to run around the lake my neighborhood sits on top of; it’s oddly been nice.

So, here’s your curve ball. I’ve been on an electronic/hip-hop kick lately and it’s time to break that love fest up. Here’s some heavy alt-country guitar riffs, wailing vocals, and enough lo-fi in those monitors to stir up your day (and playlists).

Revisits.

Going to live shows may be one of my most favorite things to do in my free time. Getting to see the entire package of what you love to listen to always leaves me with a great feeling and being able to catch The Joy Formidable the other night here in Philadelphia was truly fantastic.

This Welsh trio has been steadily gaining a secure and loyal fan base since they came onto the scene over 4 years ago. I remember seeing them a couple of years ago, only knowing a handful of their songs, at a local venue that could only hold a couple hundred max. Last night, I was able to see the group pack out a much bigger location with a much larger and more diverse audience. It was something really special.

I’ve said this is in the past but, Ritzy Bryan is one bad ass female and is definitely one of the main reasons why I’m so allured. From smashing on the life-size gong, to thrashing out chords and ripping out her own guitar strings, this woman knows how to keep the crowd’s attention. If I can leave you all with one word of advice it’s to never pass on seeing these guys live if they’re ever in your neck of the woods.

Revisit one of my most favorite and solid overseas acts and stay tuned, they’re coming out with new music soon.

There’s not a lot left to your plan at all.

I love the noise (and I mean that in the best way possible) that’s been coming out of Philadelphia lately.

Just brought to my attention, The Stammer, are a new four piece that combine jangly indie rock and 80′s styled vocals. Their self-titled debut is only a handful of tracks but really highlights their reverb-rock sound, making each individual song stand out on its own.

I really dig the bassline in my favorite track, “The Last Time,” which conjures up sepia tone images, sun-scorched pavement, and ringer tees.
