Last Saturday night I got to check out Lisa Jaeggi performing live in Bryn Mawr. The original plan was to record her live set and share it with you guys, but unfortunately the Milkboy Cafe she was playing at did not have a PA system. I didn’t want to do just another live act review because there are tons of other sites that do that, so I figured we could start a PenPal Pete feature and have Lisa be the first artist to participate.
Now friend of the podcast Science Pete has decided to be a good person and participate in an AmeriCorp program in which he will live on a farm in New Hampshire for a year while helping people with developmental disabilities. All summer we knew he was leaving and we wanted to make sure we kept in touch so we decided that we would be pen pals. My friend and I planned on sending Pete one letter a week while he spent his year on a farm.
While taking in Lisa’s performance, which was great by the way, I thought that it would be cool for her to write to Pete. Then I realized it would be cool to try and get different artists to do something for Pete each week and post it up on the site after he receives the package in the mail. Pete is doing something nice for others, others can do something nice for him. It’s the circle of life. See Lion King in 3D!
Luckily Lisa was more than willing to participate and she wrote Pete a great letter AND signed a cd for him. This means that not only is she a great musician, she is also a pretty rad person. In other words, she’s not one dimensional. Speaking of dimensional, 3-Dimensional Lion King!
that’s it, i’m fucking demanding a phonograph for my birthday.
